Dandy of a Horse

Dandy“Dandy” 7yr old QH Gelding, came to us in August of 2013. He started as tune-up but had forgotten most of his 30 days of training from when he was 2 yrs old. He was very reactive and insecure from living with just his dam all his life and not having much handling. His owner was ready to sell him but wanted to get him to a well trained point where he could be used often.

He stayed with us for the winter after being ridden by Theresa for about 60 days. Throughout the winter he was ridden 2-3 times a week. He had riders of all ages and skill levels under my supervision. Occasionally we would do some arena work to keep up on the basics that we couldn’t do out on the trail in snow that was often 2 ft deep and 10-15 Deg above zero.

In the spring we concentrated on some arena work and took him to the Spring Horse Fever Show, where he placed in all performance classes and 3rd in Trail. We also rode in gaming events for practice and experience, trotting the pattern and loping home.

Dandy was sold after the show for $2400 to a 60 yr old man in Duluth, Mn who was looking for a jumping and English prospect he wanted a proven quiet trail horse to start out with. He now rides him in English tack and plans to teach him to jump and ride in fox hunts.
